Senior Pet Awareness Month

We are celebrating senior pets! They are special in so many ways and we know senior pets need special care, but what should we do for them? How should we care for them to keep them healthy, happy and comfortable?

Let us Help

Welcome to Van Isle Veterinary Hospital in Courtenay

Van Isle Veterinary Hospital has been providing veterinary care for small animals in the Comox Valley since 2001. It is our goal to provide an open and honest environment where we can maintain good communication with our clients and encourage their participation in the decision making process. We strive to achieve the trust and understanding of our clients and their companions and believe in the value of treating every patient (big or small) as an individual.

Our hospital is located in the City of Courtenay close to the Superstore complex across from the Royal Bank and Credit Union. To better serve our clients and fellow pet lovers of the Comox Valley, we made the decision in 2014 to open our doors 7 days a week! On Sundays we run as walk-in clinic with emergencies and the critically sick being seen first. We also offer a 24 hr on call emergency service and we do not refer or rotate our after hour’s emergency calls with other veterinary hospitals. Because we have a large team of veterinary doctors and support staff, we can share our call schedule within our own facility and your pet’s medical records, blood work, x-rays and past history is accessible to all our veterinarians while on call to better assist you and your pet with any after hour’s emergency needs.

Winter Weather Blues

With shorter days, colder weather, and lots of rain in the Comox Valley, it is easy to fall into a winter slump when it comes to staying physically active, and mentally sharp. Although some dogs may not mind the blustery weather, it can make exercising less than enjoyable and may leave our pets, and even ourselves, feeling less content. Here are some tips to help keep the bond between you and your dog strong, and keep them feeling satisfied, and sharp despite the weather.

Recognizing Signs of Kidney Disease In Your Pet

A common question we get asked here at Van Isle Veterinary Hospital when it comes to an ageing pet is: When do we need to be concerned about kidney disease? The early stages of kidney disease can be difficult to detect and the age in which this can occur varies pet to pet, breed to breed and species to species.
