Oral Health Care
Horses have a busy mouth! An annual oral exam is extremely important for the prevention of dental disease. A thorough exam requires your veterinarian to use standing sedation and the use of a speculum to visualize the entire mouth.
Our equine veterinarians have years of experience in the gentle floating of teeth without excessive reductions. The horse’s mouth should be balanced and leveled in small increments, avoiding dramatic weight loss and difficulty chewing. A horse that cannot chew properly can be at a higher risk of colic.
Oral health care includes:
- oral examination/consults
- routine dental floating (hand rasp or power float)
- digital x-rays on site
- incisor table correction
- extractions
- oral surgery
