Dr. Bruce Renooy

Dr. Bruce Renooy graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, Saskatoon in 1987, and has been practicing in the Comox Valley since 1999. He opened the original Van Isle Veterinary Hospital with his wife Hilary Renooy in the summer of 2001. Bruce has always been passionate about Veterinary medicine and enjoys doing his work within this great community. In his spare time, Bruce enjoys being with his family and doing anything that involves the outdoors whether it be fishing, camping, hiking, or canoeing.

Dr. Chris Cannon

Dr. Cannon was one of our first associates to join Van Isle Veterinary Hospital in February 2004. Chris graduated from the University of Guelph in 1982 and has more than 25 years of veterinary medicine under his belt. He moved to the Comox Valley with his wife Donna and 2 kids, Tyler and Travis from Fort Francis Ontario. His daughter Kathryn lives in Montreal where she graduated from McGill University. Chris particularly enjoys diagnostic medicine, surgery, and although he may deny it, has taken on the role of mentor to the newer members of our team. He loves spending time outdoors camping with his wife, fishing with his friends, keeping up with the guys at hockey and walking his best friend Zoe in the park.

Dr. Yvette MacLean

Dr. Yvette Maclean was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and completed her BSc in 2002 at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. In 2006, she graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, P.E.I. with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, Yvette decided to move to the Comox Valley to start her career as a companion animal associate at Van Isle Veterinary Hospital and has developed a special interest in soft tissue surgery. Yvette has loved animals throughout her whole life and grew up with dogs, cats and horses. Yvette lives in Courtenay with her husband, Devin and two crazy dogs, Layla and Stewie and in her free time, she stays active by running, swimming, biking, hiking and most recently, Pilates! She also enjoys reading and playing the piano.

Dr. Mireille de Winter

Dr. Mireille de Winter was born in Holland but spent her formative years in Sussex, New Brunswick. She originally moved to Courtenay in the early ‘90’s and spent several years enjoying the beautiful Comox Valley and all it had to offer. After 10 years working the many aspects of a veterinary practice, Mireille decided to return to the East Coast to obtain her degree in veterinary medicine from the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Upon graduating in 2006, Mireille and her husband returned to the Comox Valley to Join the Van Isle team and once again enjoy the island lifestyle of hiking, biking, and walking her two dogs, Tread and Millie. Mireille is still very much a small town girl, and applies the small town values she grew up with to all her relationships both personal and professional. She is passionate about her work, and loves the people she works with.

Dr. Laura McKenny

Dr. Laura McKenny is our newest addition to the Van Isle Team, having joined the practice in June 2010. Laura grew up in Calgary, Alberta and completed her 8 years of University at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Upon graduation this prairie girl decided to move to the Comox Valley for a change of scenery to begin her veterinary career. Growing up, Laura had always wanted to be a veterinarian and is continually amazed by the strength of the bond between people and their animals. Laura is a strong believer that pets are part of the family and her own furry family consists of her two dogs (Jack and Bru) and her cat (Cleo). As a veterinarian Laura strives to keep pets healthy through preventive medicine and promoting a healthy lifestyle which wards off sickness and avoidable disease(s). Her other interests include camping, biking, ultimate frisbee and most recently, sea kayaking. Laura is excited to live so close to the ocean and can't wait to discover all the natural beauty the Comox Valley has to offer.
