At Van Isle Veterinary Hospital, we believe the best (and in many cases the most important) medicine is prevention! That is why it is our goal to help you get your kitten’s health off to the right start. Due to underdeveloped immune systems, kittens are at the greatest risk of contracting a serious and sometimes deadly disease such as Panleukopenia and Calicivirus. To help your kitten build a strong immune system, we recommend starting their vaccines at 8 weeks of age.
When do kittens get their first shots?
Kittens receive their first set of vaccines at 8 weeks of age.
How often do my kittens need vaccines?
Depending on your kitten’s lifestyle and age at presentation, your veterinarian may recommend a series of 2 or 3 vaccinations. Your veterinarian will take a complete history during your first kitten exam and put together the most effective vaccine program for your kitten’s specific needs.
Does my kitten need only core vaccines?
Your kitten may require additional vaccines such as feline leukemia and or a rabies vaccination. Your cat’s lifestyle will determine which vaccines are appropriate for your cat’s best chance at a strong immune system and for your kitten’s overall health.
